For the Love of Literacy "Pizza+Books" Event Has Been Canceled

After careful consideration, and with following the state recommendations for large group events during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel this year's For the Love of Literacy "Pizza+Books" Giveaway. We have been actively monitoring the situation, and the health and safety of the attendees and volunteers is our top priority. We are hoping to reschedule the event in the coming months. If not, we will see you all next March! Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time! Stay healthy!

The Bookman and the Joyful Noise C-Fund, along with Joyful Noise Childcare, are hosting a book drive for the upcoming For the Love of Literacy "Pizza Plus Books" Giveaway 2020!

Anyone with a new or gently used book to donate for a child! Books can be purchased on site at The Bookman, or brought from elsewhere and deposited in the drop-off box.

Age-appropriate, new or gently used books for infants through school-age children.
This book drive is being organized to support the FREE For the Love of Literacy "Pizza Plus Books" Giveaway 2020 giveaway! This event will benefit families and children in need with books and a pizza dinner on Wednesday, March 18th.

Books can be dropped off at The Bookman, located at 715 Washington St. in Grand Haven, MI. You will find a labeled drop-off box inside! There will also be a collection box at Joyful Noise Childcare, located at 508 Franklin Ave. in Grand Haven (office is downstairs, just off the side entrance on Sheldon/Clinton).

From now until Tuesday, March 17th--you have several weeks to drop off as many books as you like for children from ages 0-8 years!

Supporting early childhood learning and families is a mission of the Joyful Noise C-Fund, a Joyful Noise Childcare non-profit organization benefiting young children, parents and caregivers.
They need YOUR help to make a difference in the community.

Stop by, donate a book or two, and give our story a happy ending! Thank you for your support!

For the Love of Literacy "Pizza + Books" Giveaway 2020!

Free books with no catch from the Loutit District Library and the Joyful Noise C-Fund!

Joyful Noise Christian Childcare’s C-Fund is ready to give away many brand new books to young readers at the sixth consecutive “Pizza Plus Books” event on Wednesday, March 18th from 4:30-6:30 p.m., in program rooms A and B at the Loutit District Library in Grand Haven!

No registration is necessary for the book fair, which is open to the public and will offer free books to underserved children from infancy up through eight years of age. Attendees can also enjoy a free pizza dinner from Domino's Pizza Grand Haven as well as access to other early childhood resources.

“I volunteered for the event because I find reading to be very important” said Oscar Sipe, a student of the Grand Haven High School National Honor Society who volunteered for last year's event. “In this day of technology, kids are much more interested in video and we cannot forget reading because it's just so much fun. It's good to get away from technology, so, in a way, supporting this it supports getting kids back to reading.”

A 2005 High Scope learning study found that “the greatest amount of brain growth occurs between birth and age five” and that nearly all of the brain’s core structure has been formed by the age of just 3 years old. A strong foundation for literacy is developed at this time, and access to age-appropriate books is an essential part of that groundwork and a cornerstone of the Joyful Noise C-Fund’s Love of Literacy program mission. The C-Fund seeks to connect young children and families with not only high-quality books, but also early childhood resources to support lifelong learning.
